Gen Con was amazing.  Between the assorted events, the games I played and GM'd (and even Captained!) the vendor hall, the shows, the cosplayers, and the D&D afterparties, I had a blast (though I think I only got about 2-3 hours sleep a night.   I know that I went to bed at 4 am Sunday morning after the Kryptgarden party and then got up at 6:15 to check out and get to my 8am GM slot...)

Maybe next year we can get a BoL:ME game going....

(for you facebookers, I have pictures at GMGerrymander home page...)

Well, I made it to Gen Con.  Anyone else gonna be here?

You should still check.  We're adding more tables from what I understand.  (I'm running 4 games myself.  Some of the others on the bus are running 8 or more)

The first time I played BoL was at a samll convention (Albany Game Day)...and it was a fluke.  We were supposed to be playing Savage Worlds (which I also had never played) when the GM came down with some sort of illness that hospitalized him.

So, one of the other players pulled out his BoL and a stack of 12 pre-made characters and we were off.   And I was hooked.   Bought the PDF that night.

But part of why it worked so well is that he had LOTS of pregens.  So, we were able to jump into the game quickly, and there was enough variety so that we could have more than one mage or alchemist or barbarian or sneaky git.

All the pregens were on 3x5 cards, which kept it quick and easy to reference.  I'd recommend pregens all the way.

Gonna be there with a busload of people.  Literally.  The Buffalo Gamers Society rented an entire bus and we've filled it with gamers going to Gen Con.  A bunch of us are also running a few D&D NExt Games for Baldman/ WOTC (WOTC is giving swag and free passes to judges.   Fre lodging for those running 8 or more sessions, but I decided to keep it light and get my own room....thank you Choice Rewards Points...) but I plan on picking up other games as well.  Didn't see any BoL games listed though.

I'd say do careers, boons, and flaws as a set of d66 tables

I'd still love to see another option for purchase with something else cool, like additional adventures or spell suggestions or whatnot.  But I'm in at the 10 level already.

IT should be fairly servicable.  You'll need to add some additional rules for magic, but in the old threads there were some nice rules for adapting Basic Moldvay D&D to BoL that worked.

I've run a few BoL in High Fantasy.   If you get Barbarians of the Aftermath, there are good rules for adding races to the game and psi powers that make things easy to play.

What I did is allow characters to take, as a Boon, a spellbook with a limited number of spells.  Having the spellbook provided the initial requirement for the spell, plus 1.  So, most spells from the book (generally, I allowed a number of L1 Spells = Magic Career + Mind and L2 spells = Magic Career) start at 1 point less to cast, then you add the other modifiers (extra time, obvious gestures, etc.) per spell to reduce the cost.   Any spell from the book also allowed for increased AP recovery for that spell only.

In effect, this allowed casters to use magic more often per day, still subject to GM approval.  IT wasn't a perfect system, but it bridged the gap to High Fantasy with few rules.  (We have a BoL rule: if you can't write a new rule in 1 paragraph or less...it has to fit on one side of a 3x5 card, then the rule is too complicated and should be dropped).

Hello one and all! I've been using this system for about 3 years now and my players all agree that it most resembles what they think 'Pulp Fantasy' should be like. We actually use miniatures and these small 'map cards' that WotC has produced for D&D. Many, many happy moments of players moving thier metal 'avatars' around, causing mayhem and chaos. Mainly because they didn't have to paint them.

I hope to post some of my own adversaries that have haunted ( and STILL haunt ) and hunted my players.

I like rules lite, but I also love minis.  What sort of rules do you use for mini movement in BoL?
