Wasn’t planning on any more RPG books, but...
I think I make that plan at least once a year...

Looks very cool, guess I'd better start saving my pennies!

I signed up for MeWe during the first wave of G+ migrations, but ended up dropping it. For those of you who are on that platform, how good is the BoL/Everywhen discussion? Good enough to warrant signing up again?

"Degrees of success" resolution systems are fun. I frequently use the 2d6-based Reaction Table from OD&D with BoL, and I'm curious to see how OMNI's d20 table works in play. Thing is, I love BoL's Career system, and don't really want to play something that has a bloated skill list instead...
All that said, I don't think there's necessarily an advantage to OMNI. To be honest, I've already cooled on the idea since posting last time...

As an experiment/change of pace, I wonder how it would work to combine BoL's wonderful system of Attributes/Combat Abilities/Careers/Traits with a d20 resolution mechanic using the OMNI Action Table (Talislanta, Atlantis: the Second Age, etc.), retaining bonus/penalty dice and d6's for damage. The BoL Hack (BoL with D&D-style d20 mechanics) has already gone part way, and runs smoothly enough. I haven't thought through the ramifications of such a hack too much at this point, but I already wonder if the cap on Attributes/Combat Abilities should be raised from 5 to a higher threshold -- but if so, what?
Sorry if this is a bit muddled, I'm mostly just thinking out loud... Any thoughts or suggestions? The tinkerer in me cannot rest!

For my recent "not-Traveller" game, I decided to do something different in character creation. Rather than giving characters 4 points in Combat Abilities and 4 points in Careers, I told them to choose 4 Careers at Rank 0 and then divide 8 points among CAs and Careers however they like, so long as they put at least 1 point in each category. None of the players went the "full scholar" route (7 in Careers / 1 in CA) or "full warrior" (7 in CA / 1 in Careers), but they did appreciate the added flexibility.

Last weekend I had a chance to run a short-notice Everywhen "not-Traveller" adventure. None of the players were familiar with BoL, and they all had a great time. Character creation was finished in half an hour, leaving plenty of time for adventure. The min-maxing players were very interested in the boons and flaws and went to town, not realizing (until after the game had started) that the "flaws" are actually flaws that would negatively impact them!
The characters, recently arrived in a subsector on the fringe of the Humanspace Imperium and (of course) short on cash, were offered a lucrative job by a patron: to "detain" a rival salesman for a few days, so the patron could seal a business deal. No murder or robbery, just a simple kidnapping... What could possibly go wrong?
Two hours of shenanigans and skulduggery later, the characters had killed the target, stolen a valuable formula, and made enemies of at least one megacorporation (possibly more if their dirty deeds are discovered.) All in a day's work for Traveller characters!
They already have another patron lined up for an exploration job in a neighboring system, but we'll see if their enemies catch up with them first...

The day was saved however, by a free exhibition at the gallery that we didn't know about - The Art of Ray Harryhausen, As well as sketches and drawing that Harryhausen had made for his various films, they also displayed three of his original models used in the making of those pictures - Pegasus, the gorgon Medusa, and best of all a skeleton warrior - always my favourite as a kid!
The exhibition also features painting and sketches by the Victorian artists who inspired Harryhausen in the look of his landscapes and cities.
Even better, they had film trailers played onto one of the walls, all the Greek myth films and also the two Sinbad films. So, not only the original models but Caroline Munro as well!
I enjoy all of Harryhausen's fantasy films, but The Golden Voyage of Sinbad looms especially large among my fantasy RPG inspirations, whether BoL or D&D.

Is elves having problems with silver your invention or have I just not run across it before?
It's not a weakness of D&D elves, if that's what you mean. Elves in my setting are more faerie-ish and otherworldly, and my houserule came from something I read years ago about silver affecting faerie creatures.

I haven't read any of the Kirby O'Donnell tales, I'll have to check them out. It's a very cool setting and time period for adventure. Looking forward to the after-action report!
