Suggestions » Anyone Interested in a BoL Discord? » 7/24/2018 7:02 am

Yeah, I am still up for it. I am also willing to discuss BoL on my server at https://discord.gg/bDmNj9

If I get some interest, I'll set up proper subforums for it.

Right now, I am looking at the BoL Everywhen preview. The superpower rules look like a solid fix for some of the issues I've been having with the handling of powerups and differentiating between nonhuman PCs.

Means powers will be distinct from boons, which is important.

I'm currently using the BoL Mythic rules to run my Tales from Cascade City urban wuxia game in advance of getting something viable out of my misguided attempt to combine BoL with Fight!

I've got a BoL subforum on my forums, but those are even deader than here.

Currently running a Marvel Heroic Roleplaying game based on the Exiles series on Myth Weavers.
Currently running a modern "urban wuxia" game using the Barbarians of Lemuria rules on IRC; too late to switch over to my Barbarians of Fight! hack, but someday, someday...

Currently butchering the Pathfinder rules in anticipation of using it to run Spelljammer.

This is a really stupid idea.

I'm currently running a weekly Barbarians of Lemuria game set in my Cascade City setting-- 21st century urban fantasy with all of the gothic horror replaced with wuxia, planetary romance, and pre-cyberpunk. Now, I am obviously not going to change the rules while the game is in progress... but it's got me to thinking about the possibility of combining the simplicity of Barbarians of Lemuria's mechanics with the flexibility of Fight!'s special maneuver system.

It would require five Attributes and five Combat Abilities.

Attributes: Strength, Agility, Stamina, Mind, Spirit

Stamina is split from Strength because it adds to Lifeblood, Vitality, and grants "armor". Likewise, Spirit is split from Mind because Mind is used for Ranged attacks (Spirit is damage with ki attacks) and Spirit adds to more in combat.

Combat Abilities: Melee, Ranged, Initiative, Defense, Combo

Combo combines the Combo skill from Fight! (the number of moves you can string together into a single attack) with the Thug Thrashing skill, which allows you to make multiple attacks against Rabble.

Fight! is a level-based system, and I think levels are necessary for any adaptation of it-- plus, they are thematically appropriate for the Cascade City setting.

Level works essentially as in The BoL Hack:

  • You gain 1 Attribute point per odd level.
  • You gain 1 Combat Ability point per even level.
  • You gain 1 Career Rank per level.
  • You add your level to your Lifeblood and Super Energy totals, plus your Arcane Power if you are a Psychic or Magician.
  • You multiply your Vitality and Fighting Spirit by your level.

Plus, as in Fight!, you gain Level Bonuses and Move Points for new Special/Super Moves when you advance:

Level Bonuses: Accuracy (bonus to all attack rolls), Damage (bonus to all damage rolls), Control, Health (adds to Lifeblood and Vitality), Fight

So, I have given up on ever successfully running that crossover campaign... but I was throwing out ideas for other games I could run and this one generated some interest.

Tales from Cascade City is an urban fantasy game with all of the standard gothic horror elements ripped out and replaced with wuxia and science-fiction elements. Players take on the roles of heroic martial artists in world of occult mysteries, alien menaces, and ancient conspiracies.

I'm looking to set up one weekly IRC game, probably Sunday evenings local time. (I'm GMT -7.)

I am currently working on a rules hack to support this game, using elements from Honor + Intrigue and The BoL Hack.

It's a reasonable way of handling things, certainly.

I am considering attempting to run one of my White Whale campaigns again-- the Planescape/Star*Drive crossover. Players would control two PCs in two "campaigns" running concurrently as the settings slowly merged.

Planescape was one of the more popular settings for 2e AD&D. Set (mostly) in the Outer Planes, Planescape broke the mold of traditional medieval/dungeon fantasy and presented a world of infinite possibilities where reality was shaped by belief.

Star*Drive was the default setting for TSR's Alternity RPG. It's set at the turn of the 26th Century, thirty years after the Second Galactic War and shortly after the war-torn Stellar Nations have re-established contact with the isolated colonies in the Verge. There's another storm brewing over the horizon, though, in the form of the Externals-- aliens from the neighboring spiral arm of our galaxy.

Due to the nature of the campaign, I am thinking to run it via play-by-post.
