Alison is reading a collection of Dashiell Hammett short stories of the Continental Op - a detective working for the Continental Detective Agency - a fictitious version of the Pinkertons. She has run a lot Victorian monster hunter games for me lately, but finding ideas for that setting finally running low, she offered to run something like the Continental Op. I was more than pleased, as I love those stories, but haven't actually read them in years.

So it will be 1923 in San Francisco, and my PC, Charley Flint (ex-USN, ex-SFPD) will be sticking his nose into shady business throughout the city and the Greater Bay area. First game this Sunday - I can't wait!

That sounds terrific! I'm a big fan of Dashiell Hammett's Continental Op stories. (OK, I don't think I've ever read something by Hammett that I didn't like.) I'm always amazed at how Red Harvest has impacted the popular culture without most people realizing it. Kurosawa's Yojimbo is very similar/inspired by it (although Kurosawa sites the film version of Hammett's The Glass Key as more of an inspiration) . Fistful of Dollars is based on that and resulted in a whole lot of Clint Eastwood Westerns, many with Sergio Leone. The weirdest knock on was Walter Hill's Last Man Standing that was inspired by Yojimbo and took the story back to 1920s America but resembled Red Harvest very little. I'm sure there are a bunch of other stories, in various media, 

Anyway, hope you have a lot of fun playing Charlie Flint! I expect you'll be roughing up a lot of mooks and dealing with a lot of corrupt politicians, police, and business tycoons.
 

And you are spot on about Red Harvest casting a long shadow. And poor Dash never saw a dime!!
