I stopped going there when literally the top third of my screen space was devoted to far left talking point popup windows and they banned half the country from expressing anything to the contrary. Once they got to four or five (can't remember which) windows that I needed to individually close, I was done and haven't gone back by choice.

I never had the problem of all the pop up windows, or perhaps I just ignored them. I only really go there to talk about BoL or Everywhen - the thread there about the games has been running for a few years now, keeps appearing on the front page and is very active with some good posts.
While there is still some of the comments and debate that you don't like there, I think it is a lot less strident than it used to be, mainly I suspect because those posters are now hitting middle age and just don't have the energy anymore.
And like the good Captain, I suspect it doesn't annoy me as much as it annoys you - I just ignore that stuff as I don't go to rpg discussion sites to talk politics (and I'm British, so have a very "Oh, whatever..." attitude to that stuff).

This is an example I found on the archive with a quick search.
It's not even as bad as it was when I gave up on them as there are only four (lights! STTNG reference) and only three are political obviously excluding their pledge drive. When I left there were probably five political ones that I had to close down and then the more bog standard death notices on the right as well. Even if I agree with the politics, that's an egregious amount of annoying windows to close down just to actually get to the real content of the subforums and threads (which on my screen at the link is only the bottom two lines of text on the whole screen).

Just to add to this thread (now that I know what Big Purple is LOL), I occasionally visit the site to read threads about some games or gaming ideas, but I don't think I've actually ever posted there.
