What is Big Purple

Gruntfuttock keeps mentioning Big Purple in his posts but, for the life of me, I can't figure out what that is. Can someone please shed some light and maybe post a link?

Wealth can be wonderful, but you know, success can test one's mettle as surely as the strongest adversary.

Rpg.net. Be careful there.

For crying out loud - don't I feel like a complete muppet right now. Doh!

Huh. Apparently I don't. I've never had any issues at Rpt.net. What's the issue?

Re: What is Big Purple

Rpg.net was a happy home for my gaming interests for many years. Many of the best contributors may be found there and a great play-by-post community. During recent turbulent years, the moderators became militant adherents of their chosen ideology and the site shifted from being first about fantasy make-believe to a dogma-first virue signalling platform that enthusiastically doxes and ostracizes heretics.

From someone who visits such places to provide a respite from identity-based politics, it was no longer a place for me. YMMV.

Re: What is Big Purple

What roryb said. I enjoyed that site for many years. Then a moderator interrupted a conversation in a thread and told us all that we HAD to include current real world political issues in our games so that the players could tackle them. I disagreed and was pounced on by the mob, yet not banned for some odd reason.

I teach Roleplaying Studies at a university and I don't tell people how to play or what to include. That is up to the group. For me, these games are escapism and getting away from social activism. Fine if you want it, yet don't tell me what I NEED to put into my games.

My mileage does, indeed, vary (I have a feeling we might disagree as to what constitutes "identity-based politics"), but I appreciate your response and candor.

Sure. And I probably should have just said "politics". Whether it's right, left, or middle, I prefer not to have any brand shoved down my throat where I choose to have my funsies happy time. I can readily share a space among people with whom I disagree and even have spirited discussions. I simply cannot choose to divorce the two on dot net, which was the point.

This is how I see it. I am not a fan of either side of politics because I live my life without everything having to be political. My identity has nothing to do with politics and I do not believe any politician cares about me, and I return the favor. Anyone is free to follow any politician they want to, that is their business, and I don't heckle either side too much.
