Re: the Misadventures of the Lemurian Misfits Campaign

Valda. 10 Lifeblood. 5 Hero Points.

Whatever has gripped One-Eyed Norf clearly has no effect on Valda.

“What are you doing?!” she says to the giant. However, he seems intent on the lagoon’s waters. Valda frowns, sensing something amiss. “Bathing comes later, after we have met this Delfina, yes?” Still, One-Eyed Norf continues to the water’s edge unheeding of Valda’s promptings.

Snarling, Valda picks up a large stone and hurls it into the lagoon. It disturbs the surface, sending schools of fish and ripples outward.

Fate Check. Does anything sinister reveal itself? (Likely) Exceptional Yes (20) Inscribed Large, Defense Sleep

It is not the water itself, but rather something shifts on a stone nearby. Nearly invisible, a large figure cloaked in sand and rust hued trappings with tufts of grass protruding here and there turns toward the pair. The cloak opens slightly revealing a toad-like naked woman with runic tattoos inscribed over its body.

The figure chants. Suddenly Valda feels an overwhelming sleepiness begin to assert itself on her mind.

Fate Check. Does the new action break One-Eyed Norf’s enchantment? (50/50) Yes (12)
Mind Task to shake off Sleep spell (distrust of sorcery penalty die). 8 (phew!) + 1 = success

Maybe too soon to call the change in Chaos Factor. I’ll pause here to see what Norf does.

Re: the Misadventures of the Lemurian Misfits Campaign

One-Eyed Norf
Lifeblood: 13   Hero Points: 5

With the effects of the spell gone, One-Eyed Norf's serene smile turned to an expression of confusion.  "What the...?!?! What happened to Arlana, Loviise, Rovena, and..... Valda! By Shazzadion, what new devilry has occurred?" Before Valda can answer him, One-Eyed Norf spots the strange creature perched on her stone, beginning to sing a sinister song.  Immediately, he springs upon her with his kir drawn to attack.

Bijou  (unless you have another name for the creature)
Attributes       Combat Abilities
Strength 3      Attack +0 melee
Agility 0         Damage d6L+3
Mind 0            Defense 2
Appeal —       Protection (-2)
Lifeblood 8

Priority Roll: 1 (initiative) + 1 (mind) + 9 = success

With surprising speed for a giant his size, One-Eyed Norf springs upon the unsuspecting Bijou, unable to react since she is content with singing her seductive song as her defense.  His strike lands a deadly blow, causing the Bijou to stop her singing as she begins to shriek from the pain.

Attack Roll: 2 (melee) + 1 (agility) - 0 (surprised) + 8 = success!
Damage: 5 - 2 (protection) = 3

Bijou
Lifeblood: 5

I doubt this combat will be too prolonged, but maybe you can roll for priority and if you succeed in attack, then describe what the Bijou will do next.  I would feel that this creature is not going to fight to the death.

Re: the Misadventures of the Lemurian Misfits Campaign

Valda. 10 Lifeblood. 5 Hero Points.

Let's find out if she sticks around!
Fate Check. Does the Bijou (love the name!) stick around? (Very Unlikely) Yes! (15)
Priority Check for Valda. 1 (mind) + 0 (initiative) + 11 = Success!
Valda attacks! (with a penalty die because this thing is sorcerous) 6 + 2 (Agility) + 2 (Melee) - 2 (Defense) = Misses!
Character Actions (for the Bijou), Combat. Amuse Communicate.
I'm not going to track all the sorcery stuff, arcane points and whatnot. We'll assume she has either an innate siren like power or has enough AP to get off 2-3 spells. It sounds like her next song causes uncontrollable laughter.
Mind Task to Resist. (with penalty die) 4 + 1 (mind) = Failure!
I'll assume 1d3 rounds of effect. 2 rounds.

Valda is right behind her friend, pummeling with her newfound crook, aiming for the thing's head. The bijou drops off the back of its rock, leaving the barbarian to swing at naught but air. "Hold still, by Hurm!" she curses.

However, the singing starts anew. With the boulder now standing between the lagoon lady and her would-be attackers for the moment, her new song is one of hideous laughter. A wicked and unnaturally long tongue rolls out of her black mouth. The cacophony drives into their brains, tickling the base of their spines with the odd and simultaneous sensation of feathers mixed with rusted chains.

"Quiet your foul singing, you..." Valda begins. However, the sorcery takes hold almost immediately. She drops her staff and falls to the sandy floor, convulsing in a fit of laughter. Slowly, she begins to suffocate from her own abdominal spasms.

Re: the Misadventures of the Lemurian Misfits Campaign

One-Eyed Norf
Life Blood: 13    Hero Points: 5

Attack Roll: 2 (melee) + 1 (agility) -2 + 1 (team attack) + 9 = success!
Damage: 4 - 2 (protection) = 2

One-Eyed Norf watches in disgust as the Bijou begins to sing again. As his barbarian partner falls to the ground bursting into uncontrolled laughter, he realizes he needs to end this quickly. Thrusting his kir again at the Bijou, he strikes her in the same spot as he struck previously, and causing her to shriek a horrifying sound few have ever heard before.

Bijou
Lifeblood: 3

Fate Check: Does the Bijou stay to fight? (Nearly Impossible) No (7)

The Bijou still clutching its wounded side, springs from its perched rock and sprints off into the wilderness, screeching with pain as she takes one look back at One-Eyed Norf with her eyes filled with hatred. "By Shazzadion, back into the fire of hell, she-devil you be!" One-Eyed Norf quickly races over to his fallen companion, trying to comfort her as she convulses in her fits of laughter.

Persuasion Check: Silver tongue boon + 3 (Lothario) + 1 (appeal) - 1 (tough) + 8 = success

One-Eyed Norf slowly knees next to Valda, gently holding her, and begins to talk to her, advising her to breathe slowly.  At first, Valda continues to roll in laughter, unable to breathe, but soon she hears the smooth-talking words of One-Eyed Norf, who in the past used them to woo a maiden, but is now using them to bring comfort and aid to his partner and friend.  After the initial resisting, she soon begins to relax in her suffocation and is finally able to breathe normally again. "By Shazzadion, that was close!" He remarks as she opens her eyes fully awake and aware again.

Re: the Misadventures of the Lemurian Misfits Campaign

I think this is a great start so far! It feels like a sword-and-sorcery tale and I like the dynamic between Valda and One-Eyed Norf, they are perfect partners.  Let's suppose that they keep moving towards Zalut.  Could you set the next scene using the location crafter, I need to see it one or two more times before I feel comfortable using it.  Thanks!

No problem! I’m having great fun so far. The freedom of Mythic’s toys mesh well with a sword-n-sorcery yarn like this in that you can come up with some weird stuff. A bijou. Wild.

Valda. 10 Lifeblood. 5 Hero Points.

“That’s another one I owe you, my big friend!” Valda sighs weakly. The two continue across the island as soon as the northron woman regains her breath, with the two of them casting their glances over their shoulders for the return of the lady by the lagoon.

Let’s say the chaos goes up after that one.

Chaos Factor. 7

NPCs.

  • Crew of the Sea Pearl (presumed dead)
  • Captain Vik (presumed dead)
  • The Storm
  • The Sea
  • Thule
  • Zalut
  • Delfina Khan
  • Wounded Bijou

Threads.

  • Escape the Island
  • Find and Procure the Help of Delfina Khan in Zalut

Let’s get back to the Location Crafter. I’m adding 1 to my three rolls of 1d10. I get 7, 3, and 10.

Location. Expected
Encounter. None
Object. Random (Confusing Watery)

Here’s what comes to mind…

The day wears on. The sun begins to sink toward the horizon at the heroes’ backs. To the north are the remnants of the storm with cloudy tentacles reaching forlornly toward the setting sun. However, it has lost much of its former strength and continues its slow sojourn toward the opposite side of the gulf.

Ahead is a rocky climb toward a highland bluff. Perhaps further beyond may be found easier ground over which the pair may begin to hasten their step, or at least that is their one hope. They can only imagine what further horrors may stir at night. Once they reach the top of the rise, layers of sheer rock lay exposed to one flank, broken sheer by cataclysmic forces at some distant point in the past and revealing various colors.

The pair is alerted when a loud snort or hiss cuts over the sound of the wind blowing through the corse dry scrub. A look to one another precedes a wary approach toward the source of the sound. When they peer around a blind, they spy a seemingly out of place sculpture devoted to some water deity. Multiple alabaster hands of the roughly man-sized figure are raised in supplication above a head reminiscent of an eldaphon. A great lengthy snout is pointed upward. It appears to be the centerpiece of some forgotten and broken fountain. The walls and tiling have long since broken into ruin, but the fountainhead remains untouched despite the apparent delicacy of its slender form.

Precipitously, and without warning, a great gout of watery spray erupts from the fountain’s snout, falling with a splatter in chaotic droplets about the broken basin. Whether powered by decaying magics or some geyser-like forces of nature, the two cannot immediately tell.

“This accursed land is full of naught but riddles and abominations,” Valda says to her counterpart. “Although finding potable water would be a boon, little of Piandra’s fortune has graced us since landing here. What does your gut say?”

Re: the Misadventures of the Lemurian Misfits Campaign

"It's not my gut that is speaking to me right now, but rather my stomach. But, aye, this a blessing from Piandra, herself! We have had few and far of them in between, so I reckon that we are due. I think we should hold camp here for the night. Until we are graced with the sun again, otherwise, who knows what devilry we will encounter next?" One-Eyed Norf hesitates before sharing, "I must admit, I am not much of a hunter, I am a pirate and thief, so I am afraid that this savage environment is beyond my skills.  You being from a Barbarian tribe should know something about hunting, yes?"

One-Eyed Norf wanders over to the fountain, after studying it silently for several minutes, he places his large hand in the water to sample its freshness, and he is surprised at how good it tastes. "By Piandra, indeed, it is a blessing of luck!" He announces to Valda, sampling more and motioning her to join him.

Re: the Misadventures of the Lemurian Misfits Campaign

Fate Check: Do any events happen throughout the night that bother our heroes? (Very Likely)  Yes (12) (yikes double 6s meaning another random event!)

Random Event: Move away from a thread
Action Meaning: Travel News, Majestically Mundane

While awaiting an answer from Valda as to whether to stay for the night or push on in the dark, One-Eyed Norf spots what he believes to be a shadowy figure lurking in the dark, spying on the pair.  Holding his finger to his mouth to indicate silence, he tests his newfound thieving skills in lurking upon the newly discovered presence.  Cursing himself for not being more silent, One-Eyed Norf is amazed to find that he approaches the unsuspecting person with relative ease.  It is then that he discovers that the figure is sleeping.  As he goes over to examine the person, he is surprised to see that the person is in a deep slumber.

Action Meaning: Leader Radical, Natural Features

As One-Eyed Norf approaches the sleeping figure in the dark, he is intrigued to find that it appears to be an unarmed Kalukan slave.  Glancing back to Valda, he readies his kir for any unpleasant surprises and carefully begins to rouse the sleeping creature.  However, after several unsuccessful attempts, he soon concludes that the creature has been engulfed in a deep slumber, similar to the one that had befallen the pair and the pirate crew.  Turning back to Valda, he expresses his growing concern, "By Shazzadion, I believe this devilry has run amok over the entire island, it appears!"
