I have been away in other realms for a long time but I stumbled upon this little gem that got my attention.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_the_Adventurer_(1992_TV_series)
It is 90s Saturday morning fodder but it seems to have had some thought behind it and feels well researched in the Conan lore.
It being a kids show there is no bone crunching and blood letting and it has the obligatory comic side kick but it serves as personified Hero Point so I only wince a little.
The inspiration? It actually has a story arc that I hope to use when we get back to Lemuria.
You can find the series and a bunch of other stuff for animation fans (Thundarr anyone?!) on AnimeDub (watchcartoonsonline)
Have fun.

Perhaps the Pern series by Anne McCaffery is a good starting place. I am sure there are others but I can't bring one to mind.
FYI...the introduction section to her books are mostly spoilers so just cut to chapter one.

It may be the summer months keeping folks (wisely) away from the computer. We have been playing BoL a couple times a month. I hope to return to my game and see how the players like being the captive of the Red Witch. They are still sort of stuck in some sort of moral certitude that goes along with those games that take place in a 'World of Ren-fairs'. I hope they see that perhaps joining the Lady of the Firecoast may be an option. Then we can see who is first to perpetrate the sudden and inevitable betrayal.

I was wondering what to do next when I started thinking...cartoons! I watched some dandy adventures on Saturday mornings so why no use that? Space Ghost, Thundarr and the Herculoids can provide a lot of story plots and action. Shift the 'science' to magic (really 1960s SiFi science was magic, radiation could make anything!) and throw thae bad guys and situation at the player's characters and bam...action! Watch a few of these episodes on line and see if they don't fit the S&S bill nicely.

At last I got a group together semi regularly to play BoL. It has been going great for 4 sessions and we are stepping up to the Mythic edition.
I suppose the rest relies on how they handle now being prisoners of the Red Witch ...

The Adamant material is a great way to go. I want to use it my self. Perhaps some cities in your version can follow the Barsoomian code of combat strictly and it would be, technically, a Flaw. This would make going up against someone that can survive in a violent world with such a limitation very dangerous, they would be full of tricks and subtleties of all sorts to survive.
Perhaps the rewards would be more in the game world rather than a game mechanic. BoL seems to be better at that than many other RPGs.
However it works out it sounds lime a lot of fun and I wish I was in the game myself.

I am very happy to know that you brought Barsoom to the table. They are my favorite stories, I read them in the days of my youth. Definitely read at least the first 3 books to really get the feel for this great grandfather of SciFi/Fantasy.
I have not run any BoL for a long time but I think your Green man adaptation is good for a named character or major villain.
The players were smart to circumvent the bad guys, classic RPG move. On Barsoom this may be seen as dishonorable however. Understand I really am steeped in Barsoom lore so adjustments must be made for the reality of the modern and gamer mind. I have the Adnmant source book and it is a great alternative Mars for gaming. Look for 'Under the Moons of Zoon' for more sword and planet gaming goodness. I toyed with the idea of some system of earning honor based on the Barsoomian code of combat etiquette and other notions of proper conduct for heroes and nobles. It would need to translate into some game bonus as well as the more important aspects of interactions with NPC both high and low. Perhaps they can be spent to give boons or flaws in an encounter?

Thanks for access to the Word Doc.
I have yet to run a session with  all this life and holidays and insane OT at work but I hope to give it a whirl.
I am extra enthused because a I just watched Gaurdians of the Galaxy. I think BotV will be a lot like that with my friends.

Here is a site that did a fun little Trek d20 hack. It could be mined for ideas for boons and flaws. The 'torn shirt' ability is particularlly apropriate.
