General discussion » If you aren't playing BoL.... » 2/23/2024 8:38 am

And these are the strengths of the system. My BoL/Everywhen game is a:
BoL
RuneQuest
Palladium Fantasy
Stormbringer
-game with creatures from traditional D&D and folklore from around the world, old Harryhausen movies and a few cheesy S&S movies from the 80s (looking at you, DeathStalker 1&2).

The open mindedness of the system allows one to blend and mould the rules and setting as much as one wants to without a lot of fiddling or the class mentality of many games.

Pit Fighter, I can loan you some players, I get more than I could ever need. Bars, coffee houses, libraries, all are full of potential players.

A lot of cool barbarian and S&S miniatures can be found in ex-GW illustrator Adrian Smith's HATE board game too. Every so often I pick up a few singles inexpensively.

In running this forum we are totally in sync with the MeWe groups as I am a member of both and communicate with Garnett Elliott and have sent messages to Simon Washbourne  in the past. One way I believe to get these forums going is to run games out there in the wild, I run a BoL/Everywhen game in public and will be running a game at a convention in April nearby. And really, if I am in north Idaho and I can do this...it cannot be that difficult. I ALWAYS have businesses offering sometimes begging me to run games in their establishments and I never am short of players. We can make these games explode in popularity.

That is a great question and one that I am interested in knowing the answer to as well.

The Piazza has been a great resource for many years, especially for D&D, if anyone wants to start a presence there they are more than welcome to. I believe that we can inject life into this forum too, all it takes are contributions from viewers like you. As far as the Savage Worlds forums, they never seemed to be very big all along- their presence even on MeWe is busier and Facebook seems to be where they get the biggest audience. The advantage to the forum is that people can see that post from years back and still glean information whereas on most social media platforms posts are lost and fade into the mists of time. Let us work together to help promote BoL, Everywhen, LudoSpherik and everyone else interested in these games.

One thing I would be interested in are guidelines for making one's own setting. And taming magic so that one has a 'colour' of magic to work with and they can borrow spells from another if they learn the other spell. The one thing that I hear from people that run the game offline is how they have no way of knowing what spell will be cast and in that way spellcasters can derail a game. I use a form of spells that are broken down into colours inspired more by the old MUD Archmage, now called The Reincarnation, over the Warhammer 'Winds of Magick'. This way you have your various spellcasting classes simply by them choosing a colour, which is a specialty. For example a Red/Chaos Wizard isn't going to heal, although a Green/Druid might. (I know BoL druids are mostly psychotic, yet I am asking you all to work with me here). In this manner a simple system is tagged onto the rules without overcomplicating anything or making too much crunch.
