larger groups of players - how do you handle them?

I recently started running weekly lunchtime pick-up RPG sessions at the library where I work.  The first two sessions were Labyrinth Lord (B/X D&D), but I decided to run BoL yesterday for our third session.  The event has been well-received by the participants and observers (most of whom have no experience with tabletop RPGs), despite the fact that we can only play for an hour at a time.

This latest (BoL) session had four PCs -- the upper limit of my preferred number of players -- but we may be up to six or seven next week, which makes me wonder...  IME, D&D works pretty well for larger groups of players (perhaps due to the specialist nature of the class system?), BoL's source material (and thus, arguably, BoL itself) typically focuses on a solitary hero or perhaps a duo or trio of adventurers.

What I'm getting to is this:  For those of you who run BoL for larger groups (say, 5+ players), what, if anything, do you do to optimize the game for larger groups of players?  Any strategies or suggestions for sustaining a S&S feel (i.e. reducing D&D-creep) with a larger adventuring party?
