Still very slow. Trying to get some play tests inbetween my ongoing "Pendragon" campaign.

(I say Pendragon in inverted commas as it's my own very much stripped down version - there are too many moving parts for me these days in the full rules, so I've made a "Pendragon Lite" rule set which is working well).

Yeah, but if you've got 3 Heroes each with maybe two or three HP left, they still have (combined) more than the villain. I say you're being unfair on the villain. Poor bad guys never get a look in. At the end, the Heroes need to be down to 1 or zero lifeblood each, having used all of their HP and the Villain just survives, using his last VP to make his timely escape.

@SimonW Personally, I would say you could do away with the Initiative stat and replace that with the Mental Defense. I think you could easily go back to the old way of doing initiative as it was back in Legendary BoL, particularly for a supers style game.

Maybe. I'll look into that.

I need to give the draft rules a real close read this week. Things have been hectic at work lately and I really haven't done much gaming lately. I'll PM you today for an updated copy of the draft rules if that is OK with you.

On the way.

I'm still working on this slowly. I'm quite open to a few (straightforward) rule changes if they fit what I'm trying to achieve. Is there a rule from Mythic Edition that you dislike, have issues with and/or always change when you play BoL (or one of its derivatives). Nothing major - Watchdogs has to be recognizably BoL-based (with a little from Everywhen).

The biggest two departures from BoL currently are that I've included a new "combat" ability, "Mental Defence", which is to psionic attacks what Defence is to physical attacks. I grappled with this one the most because it messes with the balance of the 3x4 (attributes, abilities and careers) of BoL. However, when viewed in Watchdogs as a whole, it works.

The other departure, is that there is now a Vigor (vigour) stat, which is a kind of fatigue type thing. Psionics and Spells draw upon it but it can also be used in lieu of Lifeblood damage.

"Power Boons" are also new. Power Boons are essentially "super powers". Most of them require you to already have a specific boon ("Invulnerability" requires you to have either Hard-to-Kill or Hard-as-Nails) or, where none are specified, it essentially "costs" two Boons to have ("Blink" (a limited teleport) is one of these).

"Attached Flaws" are new too. These are added to a specific boon - an example would be "Boon requires drugs". This would mean that you need to take drugs regularly to benefit from your boon. When you don't have access to your drugs, you don't gain the benefit of your boon.

Anyhow, if there are any rules you use in BoL games that you think might work for Watchdogs, let me know! Also, if you want an up-to-date draft of Watchdogs (especially if you'd like to give it a shot - it is just about playable now) go ahead and PM me your email.

That isn't what I had in mind for BoL at all.

I'm going to be honest here - Honor & Intrigue has never been my favourite of the BoL derived games - pretty much for the reasons you've identified. However, I know it is very popular and it does offer some people the "crunch" they require that BoL and some of the others don't offer.

Thanks as I wasn't aware of that one.   When I mentioned an Ancients settings, I was actually thinking of a mix of bronze and iron age cultures so that might be helpful as a reference if I ever got something going!  Does it make some meaningful difference between iron and bronze mechanically in the rules?  I'm considering something like that based on critical hits/fumbles only so as not to be too onerous.

To the best of my recollection, there is no difference other than flavor and being able to call your weapon a xiphos, for example. Armor is still piecemeal, as per Legendary rules. It's always on the table for a calamitous failure. Keep in mind that HoH is in the Legendary edition era. That's not really a big deal. There's a nice bestiary and gazetteer in it, and all the peoples are defined by their regional traits.

There are some other things that make it suitable for mythic adventures, specifically in Hellas:

* Kleos. A measure of renown
* Handling gods.
* Large scale battles and sailing. These are nothing new, but at the time, Legendary didn't have those sections. The sea battles section does have a little something extra there.
* Cult of Orpheus. A bardic system equivalent to sorcery with its own unique flavor
* Other character types. You can also play demigods, minotaurs, centaurs, and satyrs
* Adventures. There's a couple of ancient Greek adventures and quite a few seeds

As you can see, it's more tailored specifically for ancient Greek stories, and less a general toolkit for bronze age stuff.

Heroes of Hellas is about my favourite of all of the BoL spin-offs (even just ahead of my own Dogs of W*A*R.

Work continues slowly on this. Many of the rules/new rules are now in place. The setting is next for attention. Also, have a couple of calling concept sketches done by the prolific and talented Peter Frain!

It's still comparatively early days but much of the book has been laid out and the two new adventures (one by Garnett Elliott and the other by me) have been given to Ludospherik. A lot of time is being given over how to get the book into distribution and how to approach any crowdfunding/kickstarter. I'm speaking with the guys from Ludospherik later this week and we might get more of this pinned down by then. If so, I'll let you know what I know next weekend.

I will be looking to run something Cthulhu related on Roll20, so BoL may have to wait a little longer before I use it again, but it will get used.

Black Books: Tomes of the Outer Dark wouldn't be a bad choice. I no longer own it - it's now published by Wood Planet Gaming Lodge.
