Happy belated New Year everyone!

RPG-wise, I'm prepping a new lunch-hour game for some folks at work.  It'll be a Wilderlands sandbox, most likely run with my "BoL-ish" house rules -- mostly Mythic, with additional inspiration from the OD&D little brown books, BoL Hack, Yora's B/XoL, and elsewhere.

Also on the BoL front: inspired by Tony Bath's "Setting up a Wargames Campaign," I recently started solo-playing with the mass battle and naval warfare rules a bit in the context of my Wilderlands setting.  For this purpose, the mass battle rules are perfect -- simple and abstract, with the right amount of flavor from the Heroic Actions.

If you don’t have an account there, they are not adding new members. Sadly, I’ve tried. (cry)

Have you tried recently?  I haven't seen anything on the Announcements board that they've completely closed the gates.  Hope you can get in soon!

How to join our OD&D Discussion community:

1. PM me at Dragonsfoot, K&K, theRPGsite, the Goodman boards, the Troll Lords boards, or any other board where I post regularly. I'm easy to find as I post as Finarvyn pretty much everywhere.

2. Be sure to say a couple of words in your PM about why you want to discuss OD&D so that I know that you're a real human. I will also need a valid email address to send an invite to from Proboards.

3. If you don't seem to be a spam-bot or a sock puppet, I let you in.

Appreciate the link; I'll check it out.

Seems a shame that this forum has been allowed to stagnate so much. It used to be really busy with some very creative and interesting posts

Agreed.  Hopefully the passing of G+ will drive more discussion back to forums and blogs, instead of just to MeWe or whatever social media flavor of the month.

Hi again Simon

Another question about the d20 Crimson Blades. It doesn't look as though the People, Animals, Monsters & Undead section got a full conversion. There are no Base Attack mods listed. I know that the original CB rules uses Hit Dice to also determine the attack capabilities of the monsters but d20 doesn't work that way.  Also, not all creatures have the same Hit Dice (an Enchantress has 2d4 for example).

Is there some simple way to determine the Base Attack Bonus for creatures in the d20 rules? Maybe it's as simple as using the Experience Levels table on pg 10 - Hit Dice of d8 or larger use the Primary Save column and Hit Dice smaller than d8 use the Normal Save column? Number of Hit Dice determines the Level?

Also, some of the special attacks still use the Hit Dice to determine success. For example, the Sea Serpent says "If a sea serpent hits with at least two of its HD, it means it has swallowed its victim whole." How to determine success in d20?

Not sure if Simon is watching this board anymore but, in the hopes that he is, I had to bump this post to see if I can get a definitive answer.

I don't know if anyone is consistently watching this board anymore!

You may want to try the Beyond Belief Games area at Original D&D Discussion, I know he visits there periodically.

FYI, my "BoL-ish Hack" houserule doc for running Carpathia games is a PDF on my blog.  Since it seems that Carpathia itself is DOA at this point, I may post some of the adventures I wrote for whoever is interested.

The Fierce Raven will probably set sail again tomorrow.

Meanwhile I'm putting together a two-player 1907 detective game set in Paris, using the BoL driven Everywhen rules set.

Sounds cool!  Have you checked out Raiders of R'lyeh?  It's a d100 Mythos & "Weird menace" RPG set in the Edwardian period.  The rules are too fiddly for my taste, but it has a ton of period setting info and a Silent Legions-ish toolkit for cults, creatures, factions, etc.

Let us know how it goes!

I haven't done any real gaming since I moved a few months ago.  I've been tinkering with "BoL-ish Hack" (my BoL/OD&D hybrid) some more, and I'm hoping to run something for my old group via Roll20 sometime around Halloween.  A coworker is trying to put together an AD&D1e game, which should be fun if we can get schedules to line up.

I've been running a "BoL-ish" Fading Suns campaign, we've played three sessions so far and will probably finish the current adventure next time we meet.  I've incorporated a few bits and pieces from the Everywhen playtest, which I've been reading here and there when I have time.  (I'm moving halfway across the US next month, so things are a little crazy right now!)

Looking forward to checking out the new Top Secret: New World Order, I think box sets for Kickstarter backers should be shipped out any day.  Once it arrives, I'll probably start prepping something for that.

I have no idea if the project is truly dead.

When we last spoke some months back, Jeff was busy with real-life commitments that left him without much time or energy to work on DT Mythic.  I haven't heard much from Peter (who's also busy with various projects), other than him giving me some good and helpful feedback on the adventures I've written.  .

With changing work and family commitments as well as the ever-frustrating gamer-ADD, I haven't been very consistent in my own work on the project.  I have notes for running Carpathia with BoL Mythic and my own variant of BoL Hack (my players are d20 junkies), some gazetteer stuff, and a couple adventures.  I've playtested my Carpathia adventures with my group and incorporated some feedback from them as well.

Recently playing: Playtested some Carpathia adventures using my "Carpathia Hack" houserules, a heavily modified version of BoL Hack, ran a one-shot of Classic Traveller, and continued my OD&D Wilderlands game.  My face-to-face gaming is on hiatus now until after new baby arrives and we've settled in, so for now I'm back to planning and tinkering for a while.

A new campaign centered around the Dolmenwood has been forming in my mind of late.  Was originally thinking of using Pike, Shotte, & Sorcerie for a pseudo-Elizabethan setting, but recently watching seasons of The Last Kingdom and Vikings now has my attention on the Dark Ages so I might be leaning more towards a tweaked Heroes of Hellas instead...
