The next session, Chapter 1 of City of Madness later! That took a long time to write.

Y'all would not believe the last few months I've had. Won't go into details, but events have been occupying my time and energy such that I haven't gotten back here to report on the last two chapters of I Remember Lemuria. Well, I'm gonna try to sum them up for you; I may have forgotten some of the juicy details of the first session, but if so, maybe Paul might remember a bit more?

So, we left off with Nymox chucking a dagger at Ooryphas, after a disagreement over politics at dinner. Nymox had brought up the plight of the villagers downstream of the secret canyon workshop's toxic effluvia, and the old Master Artificer expressed the utter insignificance of their lives in comparison to his work. His secret work that hardly ever leaves his secret canyon, and that he's obsessed with no one else ever getting their grubby, unworthy hands on ever, ever, ever.

After the dagger whizzes by Ooryphas' head, all hell breaks loose. Ooryphas makes a break further into his lair so he can "protect" his secrets with extreme prejudice, if necessary. Along the way, he plucks some of the network of wires that run throughout the canyon, alerting all his subjects. His bodyguard construct, Nemesis, unfolds its arms to reveal a pair of long blade-hands. All the various worker-constructs stop what they're doing and turn to face the fight. And Something Large can be heard moving in one of the caves Ooryphas has dug into the side of the canyon.

So a fight breaks out, and with so much time having gone by, I'm a little unclear on all the details; it was kind of complicated. (That seems to be a thing with me; wait 'til next session...) But I remember Enhur, the former Halakhi elite guardsman, trying to talk Ooryphas down, trying to get him to see that no one was trying to steal his secrets (not entirely true - Nymox wanted to get into his gemstone fabricator, and I'm sure at least one of Kai's personalities would love to get into his library). Ooryphas didn't really care; he always knew the day

So, I googled Ancient World Naval Powers. Of course, the Phoenicians showed up, but apparently Carthage was the major naval power of its time. Carthage sounds more interesting, I must say. I might have to do some research. Good thing I still have more than a month!

Nice! Thanks. High taxes... hmmm. Throw that into the stewpot and see what happens.

OK, I'm still workshopping the slogan; but that's why I'm here!

My players are headed to Parsool once they're done dealing with the Clockwork God, and while I think I have a handle on my A-plot, I'm gonna need plenty of flavor-text. So I'd like to take a look at what's been published about the city. Always a nice place to start.

I've got the French map of the city; once I push the legend through Google Translate I hope to have some good ideas of where to set scenes. Are there any published adventures, or other resources, that give useful info about the city? I might even be willing to shell out a few bucks...

In my case, I'm usually starting from a fairly solid concept, and build out the stats accordingly. And while I could see ending up at a dead end and having to shift gears in something like Hero or GURPS, BoL characters are simple enough that I'm usually not shifting things around midstream.

That's just a spreadsheet I set up in Google Sheets. I've got a shared one with tabs for all the PC character sheets that we use to keep track of things in-play. The full version has a bunch of cheat sheets to the right, for the less mechanically inclined in the group:

I, also, have only run, and therefore don't have any player characters to share, but before I ran, I created a number of sample characters, both to learn the system and to give my players a sense of what they could do.

This was my first - I figured it made sense for my first BoL character to be a Conan knock-off. I went with the Axos Mountains as a background, because Valgard is too metal for anything other than a Frazetta Conan.
