Rpg.net was a happy home for my gaming interests for many years. Many of the best contributors may be found there and a great play-by-post community. During recent turbulent years, the moderators became militant adherents of their chosen ideology and the site shifted from being first about fantasy make-believe to a dogma-first virue signalling platform that enthusiastically doxes and ostracizes heretics.

From someone who visits such places to provide a respite from identity-based politics, it was no longer a place for me. YMMV.

I would go with something simpler. BoL generally eschews contested rolls in place of modifiers. I would choose an appropriate career (or melee) to + Str - opponents’ Defense as a modifier. Other modifiers like for each category of size difference might be appropriate, but generally strength should do it. To break the grapple, the hero would have to do the reverse, roll vs. opponents’ STR.

While grappled, a creature can be granted a bonus for doing things, or inflict STR per round damage until the grapple is broken.
