Re: 2d10 House Rule

For me the issue with 3d6 is more to do with how it possibly minimises the impact of bonus and penalty dice. Someone else more knowledgeable than me might correct me, but that is certainly the perception I have when you use more than two dice.

I agree.  I guess roll 4 and keep the 3 high or low depending on if it is a boon or flaw or
Assign a +1 or +2 bonus for a boon and a -1 or -2 penalty for a flaw?

Just tossing it out there, I don't really think that 3d6 is the way for me.  I've been really thinking about going with 2d10 and a TN of 13.  But have not made the switch yet, my wife really likes the 2d6 simplicity of the system.  (I did buy a bunch of d10s a while back )

Re: 2d10 House Rule

I'm still intrigued about using 2d8 but I haven't looked into it enough yet. I might give it some more thought over the next week.

Did you do this at all? I've been considering 13 as the TN too (Lucky 13) so was wondering if you had any feedback, if you've gone for it.

No, we have stuck with the d6 dice.

Re: 2d10 House Rule

I have to say, using 2d6 is more than sufficient. Heck, Traveller has been around for decades using 2d6. It really won't get in the way of campaign play for BoL.

Re: 2d10 House Rule

I agree about 2d6 being more than sufficient. I've never found the problems some people have claimed with using 2d6 - it works well, so if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I think that for some people it doesn't seem to be an rpg without all the different dice. Horses for courses of course, and YMMV - as long as you are having fun, it's all good.

Re: 2d10 House Rule

While I have yet to play the game, my gut feeling is that I'd prefer 2d6 for one shots or short campaigns where characters don't advance much but 2d10 for something long term.   2d6 is definitely a sweet spot in terms of randomness compared balanced with the certainty granted by player bonuses at character creation but I could see the pendulum swinging too far once players advance if they decide to focus on increasing their stats/combat abilities/careers to the exclusion of other avenues of advancement.  2d10 is more random/dependent on the dice roll but still within the realm of most players' preferences given that d20 systems are the most popular overall; given time during a long campaign, I think it'll spend more time in the admittedly very subjective sweet spot overall.
